Hello there! My name is Yvette Kearney. I am a native New Mexican, now raising my herd of children and pets in Rio Rancho, NM. Growing up, I always had a special connection with animals. I volunteered rescuing wildlife, found forever homes for pets with a rescue organization, and I was a veterinary assistant. I switched gears and went into human medicine, where I performed CT scans for several years. Though I enjoyed my job, I couldn't help feeling that I hadn't stayed true to my calling. In 2012, I enrolled in the dog trainer program with Animal Behavioral College and began my amazing journey into the world of service dog training.
In 2013, as I searched for my place in the dog training world, I was offered a position as an entry-level service dog trainer with a non-profit organization. I was lucky enough to train psychiatric service dogs for veterans with PTSD and TBI's. It became clear that my unique combination of dog training skills and my human medical background were the perfect combination to be successful. I quickly rose in the ranks, becoming the Head Trainer within a couple of short years. During this time, I also worked with civilian clients with severe anxiety disorders. I had found my calling!
In 2018, I made the difficult decision to leave the organization to care for one of my children, who had been in a severe accident the year before. My family needed me. Over the years, I continued working with some clients and kept up with the dog training community. I was often asked to train service dogs full time again. In 2023, I decided it was time. My family was strong and healthy and I knew I had a gift to be shared. I decided to develop my own training program that was different than other organizations out there. I wanted to give my clients more one-on-one time and an individualized program, tailored to their specific needs. After months of business classes and preparation, in August of 2024 Tails Prevail was born!
I know there are a lot of options available for both service dog and pet training. When you work with me, I will tailor your program to your needs and your dog's ability. I won't waste your time with things you already know. I take the time to research new techniques in order to help you both.
I understand, life happens. Family comes first. People and dogs become ill.
Sometimes, training can't be a priority.
I want your program to fit into your life, not flip it upside down. Let's work together and train your dog to be your companion, for everything life throws your way.
